DIY: Floral Crown

I attended a Halloween/birthday party this past weekend.  The finishing touch to my sugar skull costume was my flower crown.  There was no way I was going to spend a crazy amount of money on one so I headed to my local dollar store for all of the components.  I spent a grand total of $6 to create my crown.  I could easily make about two more with the leftovers.  Here is how to make your very own flower crown in just a few simple steps:
You'll need floral wire, faux flowers, hot glue (not pictured- sorry I forgot :), pliers, & floral tape (optional)

With the wire create a circle that fits comfortably around your head (make sure it's easy to put on/take off)
Tuck in the ends of the wire.  If needed use floral tape to cover any sharp edges
Cut your flowers with the pliers and place in desired direction using hot glue to secure.
Add as many flowers as you would like then let dry.
And there you have it, a pretty crown of flowers!

Fiesta, Fiesta

This past weekend we celebrated my big 3-0 by having a Mexican fiesta. Our backyard was transformed into Cantina Santiago. Authentic papel picado banners and handmade paper flowers from Mexico were hanging throughout the yard. Of course no Mexican fiesta would be complete without a piƱata, a game of Pin the Tail on the Donkey, and margaritas. This is definitely the best birthday I've ever had. It was especially wonderful to celebrate a new year with such great friends and close family.

Food Porn of The Week: Mexican Hot Chocolate Cupcakes

What enticed me about these cupcakes was the fact that they took on the flavor of a traditional cup of Mexican hot chocolate, which I absolutely love.  The recipe starts with a box of store bought dark chocolate cake mix.  Add in some pumpkin, cinnamon, eggs, and chocolate chips and the end result is one of the most moist and light cupcakes you have ever had.  The star of the show has got to be the cinnamon.chocolate.cream cheese.frosting.  Need I say more?  I chose to decorate these lovelies with some Dia De Los Muertos flair.  Perfect for any Halloween themed festivities this coming weekend.
