DIY: Neon Ombré Blouse

{before}
Those of you that follow me on Instagram may have noticed that I purchased some Tumble Dye earlier this week. Being that neon is one of the hot summer "must haves" and my wardrobe was lacking I decided to do a little DIY. Here's what you'll need:

any blouse or shirt

Tumble Dye in the color of your choice

Some water

Newspaper or an old magazine

An iron or a dryer

Place your blouse or shirt on some newspaper or in my case the Oriental Trading catalog. Shake the Tumble Dye really well and spray as desired. Dilute the dye with some water when spraying up to give an ombré effect. Let dry. Once completely dry iron or place in the dryer for 20 minutes to set the color. It's that simple! Outfit post to come next week.
{end result - subtle take on the neon trend}

Strawberry Mostachon

 When I saw this recipe being made by the fabulous Marcela Valladolid I knew I had to try it.  I couldn't think of a better way to make use of our freshly picked strawberries.  This strawberry meringue cake, aka mostachon incorporates Maria cookies which instantly take me back to my grandmas house when I was a little girl.  The delicious frosting tastes like a very light cheesecake.  When topped with fresh berries it's basically a piece of summer by the slice.

Strawberry Picking

As mentioned here we made our way over to Alstede Farms for some strawberry picking. It was a beautiful day on the farm despite the rain that quickly turned into sunshine. On another note you truly cannot compare a freshly picked strawberry to those you find in the supermarket. I can't wait to share tomorrow's recipe with you ; )

Scenes From The Weekend

{gave myself an at home mani}
Happy Monday, y'all! To say getting out of bed this morning was difficult would be a total understatement. Today's gloomy weather is ideal for staying under the covers, but duty calls. Had a great weekend; Spent time with our families and went strawberry picking for the first time ever. I'll share more about that experience tomorrow. In the meantime check out some shots from this past weekend...

Eye Candy of The Week

 Happy Friday! I know this was a short work week and all, but it seemed to drag longer than usual. Am I crazy? Anyway, today marks what would have been Marilyn Monroe's 86th birthday. Here are some of my favorite images of the beautiful icon. Happy Birthday, Norma Jean!

Have a great weekend!

Watermelon-Lime Popsicles

According to the weather summer is officially here.  I couldn't believe how hot it has been for the past few days.  As the temperatures soar I find myself being able to eat almost an entire half of a watermelon in one sitting.  It's just so refreshing.  I concocted this super simple popsicle recipe to stay extra cool when the weather becomes unbearable...

1/4 of a watermelon
the juice of two limes
2 tablespoons of superfine sugar
Blend all ingredients in a blender (duh!) put in popsicle molds and freeze for at least 4 hours.  I'm feeling cooler already.
