Food Porn of the Week: My Go To Dinner

Pizza is something I make quite often especially when I want something quick and effortless.  I am not one for making my own pizza dough so I get a little help from my friend Trader Joe.  At the Trader Joes in my area you can buy white, whole wheat, or even garlic and herb dough for only 99 cents.
When I make my own pizza I like to "assemble" my own sauce.  Here's the super easy method:  Mince about 5 cloves of garlic and saute them in some extra virgin olive oil for about 5 minutes or so.  Then add a pinch of red pepper flake for some kick.  To that add a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes.  Add about a teaspoon of sugar to cut the acidity and salt and pepper to taste.  Simmer it for about 10 - 15 minutes.  The longer it cooks the thicker and more flavorful it gets.
I topped my pizza with mozzarella, heirloom & Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, and mini turkey pepperoni.  The great thing about making your own pizza is the fact that the flavor combinations are endless.

Family Fun Day in BK

{scored this lovey necklace for $2.00!}
{got an Hermes inspired scarf at Atlantis Attic for $2.50}
I spent my Sunday shopping for bargains in Brooklyn with my husband, sister-in-law, and her boyfriend.  I love a great bargain so the first stop was the Fred Flare sample sale.  There I purchased this really pretty turquoise and gold statement necklace.  At only $2.00 it was a total steal.  We then went on to do some shopping at Atlantis Attic.  Had a great weekend!  How was yours?
*UPDATE* - Just found out the original price of the necklace and now I love it even more!

Just Peachy

Peach is a very versatile color when it comes to beauty products. As long as you figure what shade suits you best it will warm up your skin tone in no time. Lately I have been into peach nail polishes and lipsticks. Here's a few ways you can add some peachiness to your beauty routine...1. China Glaze - nail polish
2. LipFusion - lip plump color
3. Giorgio Armani - lip gloss
4. Models Own - nail polish
5.
Estee Lauder - blush
6.
Kate Moss - fragrance
7.
Benefit - luminizing powder

The Elephant in The Room

Lately I have found myself drawn to elephant accessories. I don't know what it is about them that I really love. My mom told me my grandmother had a lot of elephant jewelry. Maybe its genetic?
1. Fred Flare - necklace
2. Kenneth Jay Lane - bracelet
3. Noir Jewelry - ring (seriously, how cute is this ring?)
4. Juicy Couture - charm
5. ASOS - bangles

Spotty Dotty

Polkadots are a classic that never really go out of style. Lately I have been seeing them every where. Check out a few pieces to get you started on seeing spots...

Food Porn of The Week: Baked Bolognese

This recipe is perfect for those of you who aren't crazy about ricotta cheese (like my husband). You still get the creaminess of a ricotta thanks to the addition of a bechamel sauce. I pretty much followed the original recipe except I swapped ground beef for ground turkey and when making the bechamel I used 2 % milk instead of whole milk. This makes the perfect meal when accompanied by a nice caesar salad and a bottle of tasty red wine.

Guava Pineapple Passion Sangria

I made this sangria on Mother's Day and it's pretty safe to say it was a hit. My version is loosely based on this recipe. I made the following changes:
  • Used Riesling instead of rose
  • Added a can of passion fruit juice
  • Omitted the cinnamon sticks
  • Omitted the pineapple chunks; instead sliced up an orange, yellow apple, and green pear

Cheers to a great weekend! ; )
